The Golden Circle - Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss

Since I've been a bit lazy about getting my stories online, I figured I'd at least supply you with pictures of the trips and stories will come later...

(A rocky, winding trail in Þingvellir National Park. On your right side, you can see the North American tectonic plate; on the left, you'll find his European counterpart.)

(Me in the void created by the spreading of the two continental plates. This place is heaven for geologists, plate tectonic theorists and tourists wearing striped polo shirts.)

(A larger view of the 50-100 foot high plate walls on the left, with the spot of the first Parliament in the world in the center. Apparently governments are impressive.)

(The clear water filling one of the many chasms in the park.)

(A typical Icelandic countryside - one tiny house or farm backed by an impressive cliff and some greenery.)

(Gullfoss - Golden Falls. This two-tiered waterfall is something like 700 feet across with drops of 35 feet and then 70 feet.)

(A closeup of the moss and fog of the lower part of the falls.)

(You can walk right up to the edge of both falls on the trail. I opted against climbing over the rope to get a much closer view, though a group of young Polish guys did not. Insert your own ethnic stereotype here. So insensitive.)

(Björk once played a concert on a floating raft in this lagoon. She's weird.)

(Helpful little road sign along the way. Check out all of the fake letters that the language uses. The language of the Vikings has about 30 letters.)

(Probably my favorite spot in all of Iceland - Seljalandsfoss. This picture was taken around 10 pm at night, when the sun broke through the clouds and sent me into a brief picture taking frenzy.)

(Another view of the 130 foot waterfall. I actually ended up sleeping in my car (not very comfortable or relaxing or warm) just down the road from here on my first night.)
